proteus = soliloquy?

To continue with parallels with Hamlet: can the "Proteus" chapter be read as Stephen's soliloquy? He saw the ghost in "Telemachos" (of his mother in this case).

"Ineluctable modality of the visible..." Doesn't that sound like the beginning of one of Hamlet's soliloquies? In tone, content? And Hamlet holds forth on art with the players later.
